Abstract: Cachexia, a devastating muscle wasting syndrome in diseases like cancer, significantly worsens patient outcomes. Existing muscle wasting models often lack human relevance, as these are developed in murine cells. We are developing a novel bioengineered 3D human organoid model using human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) to replicate healthy and diseased neuromuscular tissue. Once developed, this organoid model, capturing the complexity of the human neuromuscular interaction, will offer a powerful tool for unraveling cachexia mechanisms and paving the way for personalized therapeutic approaches.
