Michael Pepper is Director of the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Director of the SAMRC Extramural Unit for Stem Cell Research and Therapy, and professor in the Department of Medical Immunology, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria, South Africa. He obtained his MBChB from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cape Town in 1982, and his PhD, MD, and Privat Docent from the University of Geneva, Switzerland (1986-2004). Michael returned to South Africa in July 2004. He has worked extensively in the field of translational molecular cell biology, particularly in the fields of vascular biology/medicine and immunology. His current interests include the application of cell and gene therapies in these areas, as well as their ethical, legal and social implications.
