Stephan Alfaro is a Research Associate in the Discovery team at UPSIDE Foods in Berkeley, CA. He earned his MEng in Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 2025. Prior to UPSIDE, a cell culture research assistant at Optimized Foods working with fish PGCs and scaffolds. His current work focuses on utilizing pooled CRISPR-Cas9 to identify novel gene targets for cultivated meat production. His expertise in cell line development and tissue engineering brings work on new cell lines and scaffold validation. His key interests are stem cell research applied to tissue engineering and cell line development. His passion lies in looking towards a future of sustainable food production.
