Andrew Olander is a fourth-year PhD candidate in Dr. Shaheen Sikandar’s lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His work focuses on how aging and parity influence mammary stem and progenitor cells, with implications for cellular plasticity and breast cancer. To investigate these processes, Andrew employs a multidisciplinary approach that includes single-cell RNA sequencing, genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs), 3D organoid assays, flow cytometry, and confocal microscopy. His research contributes to the Sikandar Lab’s broader mission of understanding functional heterogeneity in normal and cancer stem cells. In the future, Andrew aims to continue his research and education in the stem cell biology community as a postdoctoral scholar.
