Dr. Cota-Coronado is a Research Fellow and leader of the Human Stem Cell Laboratory at the Department of Psychiatry at Monash University, Australia. As an early-career researcher, he specializes in refining in vitro protocols to derive neuronal subtypes and investigating the molecular basis of psychiatric (e.g., schizophrenia, depression) and neurodevelopmental (e.g., autism) disorders. His work employs pluripotent stem cell models to uncover early pathological mechanisms and therapeutic targets, integrating advanced tools such as cerebral organoids, organ-on-a-chip systems, and single-cell multi-OMICs. Notably, he founded the first human stem cell laboratory within Monash’s Department of Psychiatry and has secured competitive funding from the CAJAL Training Program, Michael J. Fox Foundation, HOMER HACK Foundation, and One in Five, underscoring his contributions to translational neuroscience.
