QIMR Berghofer, Australia
Dr Lotta Oikari obtained her PhD in 2017 from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane Australia and now works as a senior research fellow in Prof Anthony White’s Cellular and Molecular Neurodegeneration laboratory at QIMR Berghofer (Brisbane), where she leads the stem cell research program. Dr Oikari has a strong track record in modelling neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, motor neurone disease and Batten disease (childhood dementia) using patient-derived iPSCs. Dr Oikari’s areas of expertise include developing iPSC-derived models of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and neurovascular unit to understand disease pathophysiology and develop platforms for drug screening. Dr Oikari is currently the principal investigator on grants that support her research into Batten disease (a type of childhood dementia) and motor neurone disease.
