Wei Zuo, Full Professor and Deputy Director of Tongji Stem Cell Center, Tongji University, serves as Vice-President of the Chinese Cell & Gene Therapy Society. A pioneer in translational medicine, he drives innovation in airway stem cell therapy. After establishing murine airway stem cell culture systems (Nature 2015), Zuo pioneered pharmaceutical-grade P63+ human airway basal stem cell culture and bronchoscopic transplantation (Protein Cell 2018; Nature Commun 2025). His breakthrough therapies for COPD, IPF and bronchiectasis demonstrate lung function recovery and lifespan extension in NMPA-approved Phase II trials, with findings published in Science Translational Medicine, Cell Reports Medicine, and eLife (all 2024). This first-in-class approach opens new regenerative pathways for lethal pulmonary diseases.
