Dr. Chia-Wei Cheng, Ph.D.,joined the Columbia University faculty in 2021, where she is an Assistant Professor of Genetics and Development Biology and a Principle Investigator of Columbia Stem Cell Initiative (CSCI). Dr. Cheng is affiliated with Columbia Institute of Human Nutrition and a member of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC). The Cheng Lab focuses on how diet and metabolism regulate tissue-resident stem cell function and activity in health and diseases. Current research explores the metabolic and food-gene regulatory networks (i.e. nutrigenomic) of intestinal stem cells (ISCs) and how it influences diet-related gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC). By uncovering nutrigenomic mechanisms, the lab aims to develop novel strategies for health promoting, disease prevention and treatment.
