Dr. Rando received his AB, MD, and PhD degrees from Harvard University and completed a residency in neurology at UCSF. After postdoctoral training, he was recruited to the faculty of Stanford University. In 2021, he moved to UCLA to become the Director of the Broad Stem Cell Research Center. His laboratory has focused on the biology of muscle stem cells, with a particular emphasis on the molecular regulation of quiescence, the epigenetics of stem cell aging, and stem cell therapeutics. Among Dr. Rando’s awards are an NIH Director’s Pioneer Award and a Transformative Research Award from the NIH. He has published over 200 scientific articles and he is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
