University of Auckland, New Zealand
I am the Deputy Head Academic for the School of Biological Sciences, University of Auckland, New Zealand. My research dicipline is cellular neuroscience, focused on understanding gene expression that underlies cell fate to investigate how we can model and treat neurodegenerative diseases. I aimed to determine key fate modulator genes to manipulate pathways through gene therapy and cell reprogramming to induce neuronal regeneration for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases in vivo and with cell replacement therapies. I am currently an education-focussed academic teaching into the field of cell and molecular biology and am a member of the ISSCR education committee. I lead a National Education Special Interest Group for biochemists and molecular biologists in New Zealand and am passionate about promoting education and sharing of practice within the dicipline. I have a special interest in developing creative thought within the science curriculum and teaching students about metacognition of learning.
