I am Christopher L. Antos, PhD, Associate Professor at Shanghaitech University. I want to understand how some organisms can regenerate anatomical structures such as the heart and limbs, while others can not. Thus, my goals are to understand the cell biology and the molecular mechanisms that regulate stem cells during regeneration and how these phenomena generate the correct pattern and the correct size of the regenerated organ/limb. Towards these goals, I am investigating the regeneration capabilities of the zebrafish, since this animal uses its own adult cells (differentiated cells and stem cells) to regenerate completely functional organs and appendages.
