Professor Rasko AO is an Australian pioneer in the application of adult stem cells and genetic therapy as a clinical haematologist, pathologist and scientist. Since 2008 he has chaired GTTAC, Office of Gene Technology Regulator – responsible for regulating all genetically-modified organisms in Australia. He serves on the international nomenclature committee of the World Health Organization. In 2000 he co-founded the Australasian Gene & Cell Therapy Society (President, 2003-5) & was President of the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (2018-20).
With over 270 career publications he has an international reputation in gene and stem cell therapy, experimental haematology and molecular biology (h-index 75). He has contributed to the understanding of stem cells and blood cell development, gene therapy technologies, cancer causation and treatment, human genetic diseases, molecular biology, human research ethics and regulation.
He is a founding Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, an elected Member of Academia Europaea and corresponding Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
