I am a Biomedical Science graduate with master and Ph.D. degrees in Molecular Biology from EPM-Unifesp, Brazil. I was a postdoc at Rosalind Segal's lab, DFCI/Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. I am a Full Professor of Molecular Biology, coordinating the National Institute of Science and Technology in Modelling Human Complex Diseases with 3D Platforms (INCT Model3D). I am the president of the Brazilian Society of Cellular Biology and treasurer of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science. My lab focuses on neurogenesis and neuroinflammation in response to CNS injuries, neurodegeneration/regeneration, tissue bioengineering, and fabrication of CNS biomimetic platforms.
